250BHP For APS Golf GTI

UK-based tuning firm APS has just revealed details of an engine upgrade for the latest Volkswagen Golf GTI.

2009 APS Golf GTI Stage One

With just an ECU remap APS have raised output from the 2.0-litre TFSI by 43bhp and 85lb-ft, with peaks increased to 250bhp and 292lb-ft.

This results in a useful drop in the 0-60mph time of 0.7 seconds, down to 6.2 seconds, a figure that happens to beat Volkswagen’s upcoming Scirocco R by two tenths. Top speed will be increased, although APS haven’t released an official figure yet.

If you’re interested, the upgrade costs £599 fitted and is available immediately. APS also offer a warranty on the conversion.

APS POWER UPGRADE FOR GOLF GTI

Details for a new stage one engine performance upgrade for the recently launched Mk6 Volkswagen Golf GTI have just been released by the tuning firm APS.

The technicians at APS in Brackley have undertaken thorough research which has resulted in the stage-one kit being made up purely of an ECU-re-map for the newly revised version of VAG’s renowned turbocharged 2.0-litre TFSI engine.

The standard Volkswagen Golf GTi produces 210bhp and 207lb-ft of torque, and with the addition of the APS the power jumps up to 250bhp, with torque jumping to an impressive 292lb-ft at 2650rpm. This shows fantastic and significant performance improvements, with the 0-62 benchmark time falling from 6.9 to 6.2 seconds, which is marginally quicker than the upcoming Scirocco R. And also expected to increase is the GTi’s top speed on the standard 149mph, to an expected 155mph.

The APS Stage One Mk6 Volkswagen Golf GTi upgrade is currently available and priced at £599. And in case you ever had any worries about this package, APS’s conversions are covered by a guarantee for the balance of the manufacturer’s warranty. Just check you’re adequately covered by your insurance company of course.

Six Speed DSG 2.0T – The Chinese built Golf GTI to launch soon!

VW are obviously taking a leap into unknown territory with the launch of the Chinese built Golf GTI 2.0T, not many auto companies have dared to step foot into the domestically made hot hatch territory, but we applaud VW for doing so.

The Chinese built Golf GTI was spotted in the FAW factory head of production earlier this year.

VW, Mitsubishi, and Subaru have been relying on the imported car models to supply their various hot hatches into the Chinese market, a method which has gained them sales but has kept prices artificially high due to import tariffs on foreign built vehicles. The launch of the Chinese Golf GTI is expected to see its price drop from around 450,000rmb to a more respectable 200,000rmb to 250,000rmb marker.

The sixth generation VW Golf will be built by FAW-VW in North East China later this year, and is expected to launch in the final months of the year, the Golf GTI is expected to follow shortly.

Now that VW have taken the step into producing the Golf GTI in China, perhaps Mitsubishi, Ford, and Subaru will take note begin production of their own hot hatch offerings in China.

Sixth generation Golf and GTI unveiled at New York Auto Show

The all-new Golf and GTI made their U.S. debut at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. Both vehicles feature an all-new exterior design, improved interior refinements and the sixth generation Golf comes to the U.S. market with the option of the award winning 2.0 TDI clean diesel engine.
With a simple, universal, and unmistakable look, the exterior of the Golf and its hot hatch sibling GTI offer a modern version of the classic original. On sale in the U.S. in fall of 2009, they bring to the market a refined and sporty appearance and industry leading powertrains that provides power and style in a versatile and efficient package.
For 2010, the Golf will feature the optional 2.0 TDI clean diesel engine, which produces 140-horsepower at 4000 rpm and an impressive 236 lbs.-ft. of torque between 1750 and 2500 rpm, bringing a no compromises alternative fuel driving experience to the all new Golf.
A perennial award winner, the GTI keeps the options that make it Volkswagen's uber-hatchback while providing an updated look that redefines the classic hot hatch. The 2.0-liter FSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes standard with 200 horsepower and and 207 lbs.-ft. of torque; with the standard six-speed transmission or the optional six-speed DSG dual clutch transmission it proves to be more than capable at bringing the thrill to the daily commute.
Volkswagen has upped the ante with the interior refinement in the Golf and GTI. The Golf's surfaces and features challenge the class distinctions of a small car, both to the touch and visually. The appearance and layout of materials leave the impression that one is actually sitting in a car of a much higher segment. The Golf and GTI continue to highlight Volkswagen's commitment to offer affordable German engineered cars that are fun-to-drive.
