Six Speed DSG 2.0T – The Chinese built Golf GTI to launch soon!

VW are obviously taking a leap into unknown territory with the launch of the Chinese built Golf GTI 2.0T, not many auto companies have dared to step foot into the domestically made hot hatch territory, but we applaud VW for doing so.

The Chinese built Golf GTI was spotted in the FAW factory head of production earlier this year.

VW, Mitsubishi, and Subaru have been relying on the imported car models to supply their various hot hatches into the Chinese market, a method which has gained them sales but has kept prices artificially high due to import tariffs on foreign built vehicles. The launch of the Chinese Golf GTI is expected to see its price drop from around 450,000rmb to a more respectable 200,000rmb to 250,000rmb marker.

The sixth generation VW Golf will be built by FAW-VW in North East China later this year, and is expected to launch in the final months of the year, the Golf GTI is expected to follow shortly.

Now that VW have taken the step into producing the Golf GTI in China, perhaps Mitsubishi, Ford, and Subaru will take note begin production of their own hot hatch offerings in China.
